Protected Trees: 

• A permit is required to remove any living “mature tree” with a trunk diameter of 12 inches or more measured at 4 1/2 feet above ground level on undeveloped or partially developed private and public property.
• The removal of protected trees on established residential properties or in creek/open-space overlay zones may be subject to additional regulations. 

Exceptions:

• Emergency tree removal: If a mature tree poses an immediate and substantial threat to the safety of people or property, property owners can contact the Public Works Director for an emergency removal authorization.
